How do I set up Boop?

Use this sequence for a first install. Keep Boop in the foreground until the initial history pass finishes.

Install Boop from TestFlight. Join the free external TestFlight, install Boop on a compatible iPhone, and open the app.
Enable Bluetooth and keep the strap nearby. Charge the strap, leave Bluetooth on, and stay close. A strap can already be system-connected even when it does not appear in a normal scan.
Connect a supported strap. Use Boop with a WHOOP 5.0 or WHOOP MG strap only. WHOOP 4.0 is not yet supported. Boop is independent and not affiliated with WHOOP.
Grant only the Apple Health permissions you want. Approve read and write types in Health that you are comfortable sharing with Boop. Denied permissions are not bypassed.
Complete onboarding acknowledgements. Read the history-trim and wellness disclaimers. Boop requires explicit acknowledgement before enabling history offload that may remove data from the strap.
Stay in the foreground for the first sync. Keep Boop open while history processes. Check status, diagnostics, and the activity log locally before force-quitting.

Which WHOOP models does Boop support?

Boop currently supports WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG straps. Keep the strap charged and nearby, enable Bluetooth, and grant only the Apple Health permissions you want Boop to use.

A strap can be connected at the system level even when it does not appear in a normal Bluetooth scan. Leave Bluetooth enabled while Boop looks for both nearby and already-connected devices. WHOOP 4.0 is not yet supported. Boop is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WHOOP.

Why isn’t Boop writing data to Apple Health?

Open Boop in the foreground and confirm the strap is connected.
Check Boop’s permissions in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.
Allow history processing to finish before force-quitting the app.
Use Boop’s status and activity log for local diagnostics.

Do not send health exports, diagnostic archives, screenshots containing health data, or device logs through the contact form.

Does Boop remove history from the strap?

After Boop saves and acknowledges strap history, it may trim that acknowledged history from the strap. Trimmed history can be unavailable to the official app. Boop requires an explicit acknowledgement during onboarding before enabling this workflow.

How does Apple Health permission work?

Apple Health decides whether each requested data type can be read or written. A permission may be changed later in iOS Settings. Boop cannot silently bypass a denied permission, and Health export may be unavailable while the phone is locked.

Does Boop upload my health data?

No. The Boop iPhone app processes supported strap data on device and writes permitted records to Apple Health. It has no Boop account, health-data cloud, advertising SDK, or analytics SDK. Optional PostHog analytics apply only to this website after cookie consent—not to the app.

Is Boop free, and is it on the App Store?

Boop requires no account or paid subscription. It is not yet on the App Store; free external TestFlight is the current public install path. Optional website newsletter signup collects only an email address for release and support updates.

Is Boop a medical device?

No. Boop is experimental wellness software. Outputs may be approximate and must not be used for diagnosis, treatment, emergencies, or other safety-critical decisions. Seek qualified medical care for health concerns.

Is Boop affiliated with WHOOP, Apple, or Bevel?

No. Boop is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WHOOP, Apple, or Bevel. Third-party names are used only for factual compatibility and interoperability. Apps such as Bevel may read Apple Health only if you authorize them separately.
