What’s new in Boop.
A complete history of updates, hardware compatibility additions, and on-device algorithm revisions in the Boop iPhone app.
Offload & Runtime Reliability
Fixed startup and export bottlenecks, optimized background BLE work, enabled automatic launch offload, and added live battery pack telemetry.
Added
- Battery pack telemetry: Band now displays live charge percentage when a WHOOP 5.0 or MG battery pack is attached, and Home indicates charging with a bolt icon.
- Automatic launch offload: Opening Boop or returning to the foreground automatically triggers an offload check when fresh banked history is ahead of the local frontier.
Improved
- Cold launch speed: Optimized cold launch responsiveness so the Home screen and cached Health snapshot become interactive in under two seconds.
- Bounded background work: Replaced the legacy 15-minute periodic background timer with event-driven BLE wakes and coalesced retry triggers to minimize energy impact.
- Pipeline serialization: Bounded pipeline execution so durable HealthKit exports run without stalling UI interactions.
Fixed
- Fixed an issue where manual pull-to-refresh could fail to start offload when returning from background.
- Resolved daily sleep duration calculations to total all sleep sessions correctly.
First External TestFlight Release
The first external TestFlight release of Boop for WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG straps, featuring local Bluetooth offload directly into Apple Health.
Added
- Strap compatibility: Full local Bluetooth offload support for WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG hardware without a WHOOP cloud account or subscription.
- Apple Health export: Direct HealthKit writes for Heart Rate, Resting Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability (SDNN), Steps, Sleep analysis, and Workouts.
- Liquid Glass UI: Native iOS interface featuring a Home Health snapshot, minute-by-minute Day Trace chart, Band strap detail view, and Settings.
- Onboarding & privacy: Local permission onboarding with history-trim acknowledgements and zero app telemetry or analytics.
Improved
- Strap auto-reconnect: Automatic bonding and reconnection when a paired strap comes within Bluetooth range.
- Offload auto-continue: Drains onboard strap memory in resilient chunks to survive jetsam or connection drops safely.
Internal TestFlight Hardening
Internal TestFlight build focused on HealthKit transaction safety, BLE wake resilience, and onboarding state persistence.
Added
- HealthKit writer safety: Added transaction boundaries and retry cursors to prevent duplicate or skipped Health writes.
- Onboarding state persistence: Saved health permission selections and history-trim disclaimers safely across app restarts.
Improved
- Bluetooth packet parsing: Hardened frame index checking during offload to prevent invalid frame crashes.
- Background BLE wakes: Improved background Bluetooth reconnection when iOS wakes the app for strap data.
Boop Identity & Architecture (Milestone 0.4)
Historical internal milestone 0.4 (formerly development label v1.4), establishing the Boop product identity, Liquid Glass design, and clean source boundaries.
Added
- Boop identity: Established app listing identity
Boop: Strap to Healthand local-first bridge architecture. - Liquid Glass design system: Created custom
BoopGlassUI components, glance cards, and status indicators. - Support & disclosure site: Created the public web support site, methodology documentation, and AEO endpoints.
Initial Internal TestFlight Release
The initial internal TestFlight build of Boop for WHOOP 5.0 straps, delivering local-first Bluetooth offload directly into Apple Health.
Added
- WHOOP 5.0 support: Read strap history over Bluetooth without a Boop account or cloud.
- Apple Health integration: Write heart rate, resting heart rate, and steps directly to HealthKit.
- On-device privacy: Zero app analytics, zero accounts, zero cloud servers—100% processing on your iPhone.
- History trimming: Optional strap memory cleanup after verified local save.
